Volunteering

The guiding principle of the u3a movement is that members play an active role in running their local organisation.  There are no paid employees (other than at National Office).

Maybe you have skills which you could put to good use to support Bath u3a.  You may have gained these skills in your professional life, or perhaps through a hobby which you might like to develop further and inspire others to enjoy.

Here are some ways you can get involved with the u3a in Bath:

  • Help with "meet and greet" at monthly meetings.
  • Assist a Group Convenor eg collect in subs, organise refreshments, help plan the programme.
  • Set up a new group of interest to you and others
  • Support the work of the Committee eg with publicity at one-off events.

Volunteering with the Committee

Although groups are the driving force of the u3a in Bath, there is a committee whose function is to oversee matters like insurance, the monthly newsletter, management of funds, publicity, the monthly lecture and hidden topics like data protection and liaison with the Charity Commission.

The committee are all volunteers who are drawn from the membership, and we always welcome new committee members.  Let us know if you would like to get involved - if you are not sure, we are always happy for members to shadow a Committee post to find out what it involves.  Contact any member of the Committee to register your interest.

Membership Secretary - Bath u3a has approximately 1500 members and the Membership Secretary is responsible for ensuring the membership database is accurate and up to date according to Data Protection and HMRC Gift Aid requirements. This involves setting up new members onto the database, and dealing with renewals which are due from 1st August each year.  The Membership Secretary also responds to membership enquiries via email and attends the Monthly Talks to answer queries and sign up new members.  Other tasks include sending an outside agency details of members requesting postal newsletters (monthly) and TAM magazine (quarterly), and once a week they collect post from the Mailbox in Bath.  This role could be shared by two or more people. For more information contact the Chair via the button below.

Equipment Officer - The U3A in Bath owns a laptop and a projector that may be loaned to any requesting group. The Equipment Officer needs to keep track of where the equipment is and ensure it is in working order. The projector is usually lent out 2 or 3 times a month. The Windows 11 laptop needs to be kept up to date.  It is used to project presentations at the Pavilion for the monthly lectures, and the Equipment Officer takes it there and recovers it afterwards.  For more information email Andy via the button below.
