Play Reading 2

Status:Active, open to new members
Convenor:
When: On Mondays 1:15 pm
2nd Monday of the month
Venue: As arranged/no fixed venue

This Play Reading group started in September 2022.

Our choices are based on the suggestions which all the members are invited to make. So we cover a wide range of plays by well-known, mostly 20th century writers. There is no need for any special acting ability -  just an enjoyment of plays and an interest in finding out more about a variety of different playwrights.

We meet in members' homes on bus routes and with on-street parking. Members also share lifts as much as possible.

Meetings run from 13.15 and generally finish by 16.30. We borrow sets of plays from Bristol Drama Library, and give out copies at the end of the session for members to read in advance for the next meeting if they so wish.

Roles are allocated on the day fairly randomly, with members swapping  between Acts or Scenes to give everyone a chance to read a "meatier" part. Where possible, we keep the same role(s) throughout the play, to feel more involved with the characters.

There is a short break, usually at the end of an Act halfway through, for refreshments and to discuss the play so far.

The current contribution is up to £1 each per meeting to cover running costs.

We welcome enquiries from interested members. If you'd like more information, Bath u3a members can contact us via the Enquiry link at the top of this page. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
