u3a Intermediate Italian is a group of ten who meet on alternate Friday mornings (10:30-12:00) at each others’ houses (currently in Weston, Batheaston, Lansdown and the City Centre.) Some are on or close to bus routes and we give lifts whenever possible.
Our aim is the improvement of our Italian conversation and comprehension using sources such as ‘Easy Italian News’ and ‘News in Slow Italian’ and to spend an agreeable morning together. We have in the past bought grammar and vocabulary books. We also each speak of our recent experiences or some other topic.
The host chairs the meeting and can introduce other media for study – and provides the coffee and biscuits (the only expense).
We have diverse previous experience of learning Italian and the group is very interested in the food, drink and culture of Italy. Occasionally a participant can get carried away talking about something of interest and feels the need to explain in English. As it is a relaxed group, this is tolerated!
We currently have one vacancy - enquiries to the convenor via the Enquiry link at the top of this page or to: jenjtaylor2@gmail.com. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
