Even More Good Reading

Status:Active, full but can join waiting list
Convenor:
When: 2:00 pm
4th Thursday of the month
Venue: As arranged/no fixed venue

We are a friendly group of 8 members and our reading is mainly contemporary fiction, although we have included some works of non-fiction, and older books which are personal favourites. We take turns to choose the book for discussion each month and to host the meeting, when the host provides tea and coffee and a short introduction to the book.

Our members are all enthusiastic, attend meetings regularly and take an active part in the discussion. We occasionally take a month's break in the summer, and always review our year's reading at the December meeting.

Due to space and time constraints, we are not seeking new members but would welcome enquiries if you would like help to start an additional group.

Popular book choices from the past few years include: FINGERBONE by Hiroki Takahashi, THE BEAN TREES by Barbara Kingsolver, THE ISLAND OF MISSING TREES by Elif Shafak, THE DUTCH HOUSE by Ann Patchett and ON CANAAN'S SIDE by Sebastian Barry.

This year our planned reading programme so far for 2026 includes:

  • ORBITAL by Samantha Harvey
  • GABRIEL'S MOON by William Boyd
  • THIS IS HAPPINESS by Niall Williams

If you would like more information, u3a members can contact us via the Enquiry link at the top of this page. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
