We are a supportive group of writers for pleasure. For each meeting we prepare something from the prompts supplied, fiction mainly, but some members draw on their own experiences. We have one regular poet, and a couple of occasional ones. One member wrote a play for us all to read parts. We read our work aloud then have a brief discussion.
Each meeting there is a short timed writing exercise. We enjoy the challenge to be put on the spot and surprise ourselves with how quickly everyone can come up with something. These pieces are often humorous.
We meet in St Michael’s Church Cafe (by Waitrose) fortnightly 13.30-15.00, and communicate between meetings via a WhatsApp Group. There are no subs to pay but it’s understood everyone buys a drink during each meeting. As with many U3A groups, attendance varies, so if we are numerous we split into two groups, the better to hear and respond to each other’s work.
If you'd like to join us, please contact Tina, our convenor, via the Enquiry link at the top of this page. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
