Status:Active, open to new members
Convenor:
When: Weekly on Mondays 10:30 am
Venue: Widcombe Baptist Church

The u3a SATB choir meets every term time Monday morning from 10.30 until 12.30 in the Widcombe Baptist Church. We always have a break half-way through the morning, and over the years many lasting friendships have been formed.

Our repertoire ranges from madrigals, rounds and part-songs to larger choral works. In recent years we have sung Faure's Requiem, Haydn's Little Organ Mass, Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man and Vivaldi's Gloria.

On the 8th December we sang Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols to an invited audience of friends and relatives. Currently we are working on Dvoraks Mass in D for the 23/3.

We do not sell tickets for public performances but sing for our own pleasure while learning in detail a work from the classical repertoire. The emphasis is on enjoyment, making friends and simply singing- and we always learn some shorter, lighter pieces alongside our main choral work.

All u3a members are welcome to join the choir and there are no auditions. Some previous experience of choral singing is useful, together with the ability to follow a musical score. You don't need to be a fluent sight-reader-you can always find somebody to sit next to who will be willing to help you.

Our musical director, David Bishop, leads us with energy and enthusiasm and the choir is flourishing with  nearly 60 members but in the large, light and airy space offered by Widcombe Baptist Church we can always find room for more.

We welcome enquiries from interested members for all voices. We do have to ask for a termly subscription of approximately £30, just to cover running costs. This is in addition to the annual u3a membership.

If you are a Bath u3a member, and would like to join us, please contact Claer Turner via the Enquiry link at the top of this page. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
