The Longer Walks Group started in 2015 to provide more challenging walks for u3a members. The walks are generally 8 to 12 miles and could include significant ascents and descents. The shorter daylight hours in winter mean walks in those months are at the shorter end of that range.

New Members are always welcome.

Members are encouraged to suggest walks and lead them if they are happy to, though there is no requirement to do so. It is advisable for leaders to pre-walk their routes, particularly if they are unfamiliar with the proposed route. This is best done near the proposed date to identify any obstructions or hazards on the proposed route. On recent walks the number of participants has averaged about 14, out of a membership of about 40.

Some walks are in the local area but we also go farther afield. For instance, in recent years we have been to Avebury, the Marlborough Downs and the Mendips. We may use members' cars to get to the start and end of walks. Sometimes we use trains or buses to allow a linear walk. Where feasible, consideration is given to timing the start of walks for those who wish to use public transport, rather than use cars.

We are always looking for people to volunteer to lead the walks. If you have a favourite walk you would like to share please book a month when you would be able to lead and contact the Convenor.

Regrettably, dogs are not permitted on our walks.

If you are interested and would like to come on one of our walks, or would just like more information, Bath u3a members can contact us via the Enquiry link at the top of this page. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
