European and Current Affairs

Status:Active, open to new members
Convenor:
When: On Thursdays 10:30 am
2nd & 4th Thursday of the month
Venue: Manvers Street Baptist Church

We have a maximum membership of 22 and meet on the second and fourth Thursday of each month with breaks at Christmas, Easter and over the summer.

We discuss any current issue in the news; a list of possible topics is usually sent round in advance, but members can raise anything they want on the day. We feel it is important to continue to review affairs in Europe as these are often overlooked in the UK media but we frequently discuss world issues as well. Items range from elections (both local and national) in the UK and elsewhere, large-scale world events such as wars or similar emergencies and major domestic topics such as Education, the Economy and Health.  Occasionally members give a talk on a country or topic on which they have special knowledge (these have recently covered International Sport and Public Health) and we have sometimes had outside guest speakers.

If you'd like more information, u3a members can contact us via the Enquiry link at the top of this page. Non-members should contact the Groups Advisers for more information.
